Harold Gunson Fellowships

Dr. Gunson led the Society through a period when ISBT faced many problems as a consequence of the discovery that Hepatitis B and AIDS could be transmissible through blood transfusion. Dr. Gunson continued to carry out his responsibilities and ensured that the work of ISBT progressed during this period. Dr Gunson devoted much time to developing countries and supported the ISBT fellowships which created an opportunity for doctors and scientists from developing countries to attend ISBT congresses.

At every Regional or International Congress a limited number of grants will be available. The applicant should:

  • be active in the field of blood transfusion or related fields under 40 years of age at the date of the first day of the Congress;
  • live in low and medium development index countries included in the UN Development Programme (UNDP)
  • submit an abstract;
  • have an abstract that has been accepted for the scientific programme;
  • should not have received an ISBT fellowship more than twice before.

To apply for a Dr. Harold Gunson Fellowship grant the applicants should submit an abstract for the congress and should request the special fellowship form from the ISBT Central Office.

Registration is closed for the 2012 Dr. Harold Gunson Fellowship grant.
