Harold Gunson Travel Award

All Young Professionals who are 40 years or younger can apply for the Harold Gunson Fellowship and receive travel, registration and accommodation for the congress.

Closing date for applications was March 6, 2019 at 23.59 CET.

Young Professionals Drinks

Sunday, June 23, 2019 19.00-20.00

The drinks will be organised by the Young Professionals Council to offer young transfusion medicine professionals a possibility to meet and have an informal conversation. 

The drinks will be held at the ISBT desk in the Exhibition area. 


There will be 3 workshops held during the Basel Congress: 

  • Fundamentals of Good Grant Writing Workshop hosted by Imelda Bates on Monday, June 24, 8:30-10:00.
  • Workshop on How to Improve Your Scientific Writing hosted by Bob van der Laaken on Tuesday, June 25, 8:30-10:00
  • Pitch your research idea hosted by Henrik Ullum on Wednesday, June 26, 8:30-10:00.

Young Professionals Networking Breakfast

A breakfast is organized to facilitate an informal networking meeting between Young Professionals (under 40 years old) and Transfusion Medicine experts. More information about the location of the breakfast and the application process will become available in due course.

Young Professionals Scientific Session

This congress, the scientific programme offers a Young Professionals Scientific Session.

If you would like your abstract to be considered for oral presentation in this session, please indicate this during the abstract submission process.

You should be undertaking research in a topic related to transfusion medicine and you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be 35 years of age or under (proof of age will be required if successful)
  • Attending the congress and presenting the submitted work if selected
  • And be working towards a PhD or Masters degree and/or undertaking high level research
