How to reach Cancún

Cancún Airport is served by many international airlines. It is the second largest in Mexico and handles the most international traffic.

Geographical Information
Cancún is embedded in northern Quintana Roo, a state located in southeast Mexico. Cancún is a hub linking the state’s archaeological sites with those of the neighboring state of Yucatan.

CLIMATE  
The weather is nearly perfect year round. The heat traditionally relegated to the tropics is more than tempered by cooling ocean breezes and the effervescent Caribbean.
The average maximum and minimum temperatures are:  From July to September: 24° to 33°C (75° a 91°F)

CURRENCY
As the Mexican Peso is strongly related to the US-Dollar, it is recommended to change US-Dollar in cash or traveller checks for Mexican pesos on arrival at the airport in Cancún. Otherwise an exchange will be time consuming, especially outside of tourist destinations. The exchange rate is about $13.50 MP per $1.00 USD.
The Mexican currency is called Peso ($) with bills of $1,000, $500, 200, 100, 50 and 20 and coins of 10, 5, 2, 1, 0.50, 0.20, 0.10 and 0.05. Credit cards (Eurocard/Mastercard, Visa and American Express) are widely accepted.

DRESS CODE
The dress code for the congress is business casual. Please note the convention center rooms may be cool, therefore a jacket or wrap could be required.

ELECTRICITY
The electricity standard in Cancún is 110 volts AC, the same as in the United States and Canada.   Even though many places have three-pronged polarized outlets, it is recommendable that you bring an adapter.

INSURANCE
The congress organiser cannot accept responsibility for accidents that might occur. Delegates are encouraged to obtain travel insurance (medical, personal accident and luggage) in their home country prior to departure.

LANGUAGE  
Spanish is the official language in Mexico, but in Cancún the large majority of tourist services speak English, and in some cases a third language. The rural population is bilingual, they speak Spanish and Mayan.

MEDICAL CARE
Clinics and hospitals provide 24 hours emergency services. The national emergency phone numbers are 060 and 066. Hotels have a doctor on call through the reception. Reciprocal EC cover is available at outpatient departments, otherwise private consultation fees are charged.

SALES TAX REFUNDS
Under Mexican law, foreign tourists may obtain a refund of sales tax (value added tax) paid for goods purchased while in Mexico. Some restrictions apply.

SECURITY
Cancún is a safe city. We recommend to be street wise as in every major city, please be careful with your personal belongings and take care of your personal safety.

SMOKING
Federal regulations establish that smoking is prohibited in all indoor public spaces.

TAP WATER
Bottled water is recommended and most hotels and restaurants provide it.
It is recommended to avoid drinks with ice cubes, except in restaurants and hotels.
