Dr Jill Storry New Chair of the ISBT Working Party on Red Cell Immunogenetics and Blood Group Terminology
30 August 2010
After many years as Chairperson of this Working Party Dr Geoff Daniels decided it was time to stand down. An election was held amongst the Working Party members and Dr Jill Storry was elected. Jill was very honoured with her election and her comments is as follows:
''I am very privileged to have been chosen as the new Chair of the ISBT Working Party on Red Cell Immunogenetics and Blood Group Terminology. My love of everything to do with blood groups goes back as far as my career in laboratory Transfusion Medicine from Zimbabwe to England, from there to USA and finally to Sweden! I look forward to the challenges ahead within the WP. Fourteen new blood group antigens in 10 different blood group systems were accredited at our last meeting in Berlin, demonstrating that antigen discovery remains very active. Furthermore, we have taken on the Herculean task of naming and cataloguing blood group alleles, a draft of which is available for comment on our website (http://ibgrl.blood.co.uk/ISBTPages/ISBTHome.htm).
