Dear colleagues,

It is our pleasure that you attend the 22nd Regional Congress of the ISBT, Asia, in Taipei, Taiwan.

It was twelve years ago in 1999 that we hosted the ISBT regional congress once. This time, we treasure the opportunity to organize a world-class gathering providing a platform for in-depth discussions among transfusion professionals. We are proud that the Scientific Committees have collaborated to create such a fascinating and up-to-date program in the field of transfusion medicine and stem cell transplantation.
There will be nine plenary lectures in cellular therapies, Blood groups genetics, and transfusion transmitted diseases, and 18 parallels symposia covering topics from blood donor recruitment, blood components, pathogen reduction, risk reduction, quality management, immuno-hematology, blood group genetics, adverse effect of transfusion, platelet and granulocytic issues, cellular therapies etc. Quite uniquely, the programs also include: 1. Miltenberger related issues, which are quite important to Asia Pacific regions, 2. Blood donation in the Asia Pacific region, 3. experience in managing disasters to include Australian natural disasters, and the East Japan earthquake/tsunami disaster, and 4. population genetics and human migrations. Aside from these scientific programs, an education program covering clinical immunohematology and quality management are set up to give an overview and update of the current trends in Transfusion Medicine.

We hope that this regional congress offers opportunities to meet your friends and colleagues, to exchange experience in transfusion medicine, and hopefully, to stimulate ideals in research project. I sincerely hope that you will have an enjoyable stay in Taipei, and a successful conference.

We are looking forward to meeting you in Taipei, 2011.

Chien-Feng SUN
President of the Congress
