Worked for over 20 years in various roles including clinical transfusion, blood donation services, and blood processing and supply. Zheng has led and participated in multiple research projects at the provincial, departmental, and division levels, and published over 10 papers, such as "Guidelines on the construction of premises in blood establishment, Part II: premises for blood processing" and "Guide to the preparation, use and quality assurance of blood components."

Director Collections Network and Operations Infrastructure, Australian Red Cross Lifeblood

Commenced with Lifeblood in March 2005 as a property development expert to lead the relocation of the Brisbane Processing Centre. After successfully completing this project in 2008, James went on to reinvigorate the entire property portfolio with the relocation of the Sydney and Melbourne processing centres, the complete refurbishment of the Perth processing centre and the relocation of the Adelaide operations and national contact centre. James has relocated National Office three times and managed the Collection Network of Donor Centres nationally, overseeing over 100 refurbishment or relocation projects. During his time at Lifeblood James has managed over $600M of capital investment in the property network.
 
In recent years James has also assumed responsibility for the collection device infrastructure and in the past three years Lifeblood has replaced the entire aged fleet of equipment for all phlebotomy types – Whole Blood, Plasma and Platelets (1,317 items).
 
James is supported at Lifeblood by a dedicated team of property professionals specializing in design and construction, leasing and facility maintenance as well as an asset management team who support the ongoing procurement and maintenance of the operations infrastructure.
