Welcome words from ISBT

Dear colleagues, dear friends,

It is my great privilege, on behalf of the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT), to welcome you to the 39th International ISBT Congress in Kuala Lumpur. My warmest thanks go to the Malaysian Blood Transfusion Society for their partnership and for welcoming ISBT and our global community to this wonderful city. Kuala Lumpur—dynamic, diverse, and open to the world—stands at the crossroads of tradition and innovation. With its unique blend of cultures and forward-looking energy, it offers an ideal setting for learning, scientific exchange, and collaboration.

ISBT congresses are, by essence, bridges—connecting continents, disciplines, ideas, and people. Kuala Lumpur 2026 will embody this spirit. It will bring together professionals from across the world to share knowledge, strengthen collaboration, and shape the future of transfusion medicine and cell therapies.

This congress represents a unique opportunity to:

  • Engage with the latest developments in transfusion science and medicine – from the donor to the recipient -, cellular therapies, and promising new technologies.
  • Network with colleagues from around the world, forging partnerships that continue long after the congress ends.
  • Interact with ISBT Working Parties, where questions become research and findings are translated into strategies ready for implementation.
  • Participate in education and capacity-building activities, designed for both established experts and emerging professionals.

Kuala Lumpur 2026 will also provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of the next ISBT Strategic Plan (2026–2030). At its core, this strategy reflects our vision of a world where blood therapies are safe, sufficient, and grounded in evidence, and our mission to advance transfusion medicine and cell therapies worldwide through knowledge, connection and advocacy.

We anticipate an exceptional program—rich in science and medicine, inclusive in global participation, and forward-looking in its ambition. I warmly encourage you to explore the sessions, meet experts, engage with young professionals and corporate partners, and allow yourself to be inspired by the strength and diversity of our community.

My sincere gratitude goes to the Malaysian Blood Transfusion Society, the Local Organizing Committee, the Scientific Committee, and the many colleagues whose dedication has shaped this congress. Their commitment, combined with your presence, will make Kuala Lumpur 2026 an outstanding milestone in ISBT’s continuing journey.

I look forward to welcoming you in June 2026, to learn together, to connect, to innovate, and to advance transfusion medicine for all.

Warm regards,

Pierre Tiberghien

President, International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT)

Welcome Words from the MBTS (Malaysian Blood Transfusion Society)

Dear friends and colleagues,

On behalf of the Malaysian Blood Transfusion Society (MBTS) and ISBT, it is with great pleasure to welcome all delegates, speakers, exhibitors and partners to the 39th International ISBT Congress, held from 20th–24th June 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), Malaysia.

This congress represents a significant milestone for the region and we are deeply honoured to host the global transfusion medicine community here in Kuala Lumpur. In planning this event, the Local Organising Committee has worked closely with the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) to curate a scientific programme that reflects the evolving challenges and innovations across transfusion science, blood safety, patient blood management, regenerative medicine and emerging technologies in the field of transfusion. Our aim is to provide a comprehensive platform that will support meaningful learning, constructive dialogue, and impactful collaborations among experts from around the world.

Kuala Lumpur offers an inspiring environment for scientific exchange. With its modern infrastructure, efficient accessibility, and diverse cultural landscape, the city provides an ideal setting for professional engagement as well as personal enrichment. Delegates will find the KLCC precinct especially convenient, with world-class meeting facilities, carefully planned public spaces, and close proximity to accommodation, dining, and cultural attractions.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Scientific Committee, our local and international partners, and the many volunteers whose dedication has been instrumental in bringing this congress to fruition.
