Aim of the webinar:
The aim of this Live Journal Club is to review universal analytical and administrative tools applicable to blood banks and blood systems, spanning from structured problem identification and prioritization to health program and policy implementation.
Using real-world transfusion and haemovigilance scenarios, the session will demonstrate how evidence can be translated into effective programs, implementation strategies, and evaluation frameworks with measurable impact.

What knowledge is required?
- Successful implementation of a patient blood management programme in a lower middle-income stat
- Nucleic acid testing in Colombian blood banks (2018–2024): Implementation, yield estimates and implications for safer transfusion policy
Target audience
This session is aimed at scientists, blood bankers, transfusion practitioners, managers, blood bank directors, health system decision-makers, and regulatory and public health authorities involved in blood systems.
The Speaker
Juan Manuel Cisneros Carrasco
Dr Juan Manuel Cisneros Carrasco is a medical specialist in Clinical Pathology. He is Head of the Blood Bank at the Aranda de la Parra Hospital, in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico. He is also an educator and trainer on transfusion medicine issues and promoter of voluntary blood donation. Dr Carrasco is University professor at La Salle University in the disciplines of microbiology and health sociology, and also an opinion columnist writer at Periódico AM.
