Blood Banks and Transfusion Society of Türkiye (BBTST) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) which is successfully contributing progress of Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine (BB&TM) in Türkiye since 1996. BBTST currently has 666 members, 64% of whom are physicians, while the remaining members include other professionals such as nurses, technicians, and related personnel.
BBTST has organized 28 national courses, 18 national congress, 20 seminars, 114 symposia and 15 special sessions at the national congresses of different clinical branches have been done so far at different parts of Türkiye. The estimated total number of participants is 50,000.
BBTST has converted its national congress, which has been organized since 2006, to international one; 3 international congresses; VIII. European ISBT Congress 2003, XII. AATM – XX. BBTST Congress in 2016, I. International Blood Banks & Transfusion Medicine Congress in 2020.
BBTST initiated international annual workshops with Turkish Blood Foundation (TBF) since 2012 till 2022; Anatolian Blood Days (ABD) which was a workshop based on interactive panels and final declaration. Aim of ABD was to touch untouched or less touched topics of BB&TM. 11 international workshops were organized, around 52 countries were participated from almost all religious, ethnical, social, cultural and economic situations of the world.
BBTST will hold the II. International Blood Banking & Transfusion Congress in Antalya, Türkiye, in 2026.
