ISBT Award
The ISBT Award is granted to individuals or organisations/teams who have contributed significantly to ISBT, and to the fields of transfusion medicine and science. Nominations are invited from the ISBT Board and the decision to grant the awards made by the Executive Committee. There are normally two awards per congress, but the ISBT Executive Committee has the discretion to grant more or fewer awards depending on the nominations received.
Benefits and conditions
The ISBT Award is in the form of a certificate of achievement. The recipients will receive their certificate during the opening ceremony of an ISBT congress for which the registration fee will be waived. There is no additional financial award.
Eligibility
To have made a significant contribution to transfusion medicine and science, and a major contribution to the goals of the ISBT.
Nomination
Four months before a regional or international congress the ISBT Board will be requested to make nominations for the ISBT Award.
The nomination will be accompanied by a brief biography and citation.
The nominator is responsible for providing information to the ISBT Executive in a standard format that should include:
- Current or past position
 - Contributions to the work of ISBT
 - Brief outline of work history and other relevant positions (e.g. committees, societies)
 - Any major achievements in transfusion medicine / science
 - A citation giving specific reasons for the nomination
 
Assessment
The nominations will be scored according to the following criteria:
- Demonstration of active leadership or active participation in transfusion medicine over an extended period of time
 - Demonstration of exceptional accomplishments in transfusion medicine
 - Demonstration of a significant contribution to
 - Scoring will be on a scale of 1 – 3
 - 1 = Exceptional demonstration of the criteria
 - 2 = Has highly met the criteria
 - 3 = Shows evidence of the criteria
 
The recipients of the award will be the two highest scoring nominees. In the event of a tie re-scoring will take place, or the Executive Committee will decide to grant an additional award.
