The Regional Blood Centre (RBC) Peshawar is located in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan. The Centre was established through a grant-in-aid by the German Government, on an area of 16,686 sq ft, and was officially inaugurated in November 2016. The Centre is located at about 40 kilometers from the Afghan border.

The Centre serves a total population of about 4.26 million of Peshawar city, which is 12% of the provincial population. In the year 2023, the RBC collected 62,185 blood donations and supplied approximately 180,000 units of blood and blood components to patients in need at hospitals and thalassaemia centres in Peshawar.

Essentially the role of the Regional Blood Centre is the mobilization of voluntary non-remunerated blood donors, collection of blood donations, its processing, TTI screening, component preparation and storage, distribution to attached hospital blood banks, haemovigilance, and research and development. All these activities are being carried out in line with the principles of Good Manufacturing and Laboratory Practices (GMP & GLP).

The RBC Peshawar has been promoting the culture of research and development in the transfusion sector. The RBC regularly publishes and presents research work in reputable international and national research journals. During the past eight years, the RBC published more than 90 research articles in international journals of repute with high impact factors. The RBC regularly published an Annual Report and a Quarterly Newsletter.

The Regional Blood Centre is the first of its kind in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, established in accordance with the international WHO standards and guidelines for blood transfusion services. Since its inception in 2016, this Centre has emerged as the best facility in the province to provide quality assured blood services that is comparable to such centres of the developed world. The RBC has become the hub of blood transfusion-related training activities in the province. The roadmap RBC has followed is very structured and systematic and had a huge impact on the overall quality of blood transfusion services in the provincial capital.
