Life threatening hemorrhage (LTH) is a worldwide problem facing many different types of medical practitioners. The most efficient and beneficial way to resuscitate patients with LTH is currently under intense study, and not all solutions will be appropriate or applicable in all settings. This subgroup will bring together different types of healthcare practitioners from diverse healthcare environments to share their expertise in managing patients with LTH and to work towards novel solutions.
About
The LTH subgroup is part of the Clinical Transfusion Working Party. We encourage participation from all types of healthcare providers who treat patients with LTH in all types of environments. Our objectives are to develop a network of providers who are intrested in exploring different aspects of LTH care, from sharing best practices to investigating new practices.
Activities
We will hold online meet the expert sessions, live journal clubs, and support our membership in performing research into LTH.
Some of our current projects include
- Differences between rural and urban resuscitation practices
- Accessing rare donor registries during LTH
- Surveys including questions about hyperkalemia risk mitigation in MTP and RBC characteristics in MTP and pediatrics
- Should massively bleeding patients in the operating room be treated similarly to trauma patients
- One page summaries of how to organize and operate blood banks during times of crises
- Transporting blood by air
- Quality indicators for massive transfusion with a view to developing guidelines
- Massive transfusion protocols in pediatrics
- Development of an algorithm for management of life-threatening hemorrhage in the absence of viscoelastic testing
Feel free to get in touch with the leadership of the LTH subgroup to find out how to participate in these projects.
